Ok you got me, I’m not Amish. But I am from Lancaster, PA- the home of many Amish families. The question I get most often where I live now is ‘so, are you Amish?’ … I usually say yes, but I was shunned. I know, I know, not the most polite thing to say – but you’ve gotta spice up your answers when the monotony threatens to raise your blood pressure.
So hi word press! I’m Ashley. 26 years old, newly married to a wonderful guy, living on the coast of Alabama. I am a yoga teacher at a power vinyasa studio, Glow Yoga (100 hours of training down – another 100 hours to be completed within 12 months!), a Beachbody Coach (which means I own my own fitness business by helping other people and work it from my home), and I also dabble in serving & nannying.
My ultimate goal is to be fully self employed through Beachbody Coaching which would allow me more flexibility to teach yoga. Combining my love of fitness & yoga should be easy, right?
Well, it takes a while to build a business from scratch. But if I can commit to a company for 2-3 years, working my tail off in order to be debt-free, you can bet I’m going to do it. What debt, you ask? Oh new reader- you’re inquisitive; I like you. I’d rather NOT talk about the thousands of dollars of student loan debt I’m in, but sure why not? I went out of state for college, transferring back in state for my last year and a half– which left me with graduating with honors, a Bachelors degree in Communication, clueless as to what I wanted to do, and a whole pile of Sallie Mae debt.
I had a great paying job in marketing after college, but quickly realized that a cubicle under fluorescent lighting is not where I choose to spend the next 30 years of my life. Lo and behold, I had the opportunity to move to the gulf coast to be with the guy who is now my husband.
See ya, cubicle. Buh-bye business casual. Hello figuring out how to pay your bills without a steady salary. #yikes
I’ve always worked hard, so I quickly found myself a good paying job as a server at a golf course. Fast forward two years and I’ve bumped my serving workdays down to 2 a week, am working on my OWN fitness business as a network marketing professional and growing a yoga following. Entrepreneurship is certainly not for everyone, but if you’ve got the passion & drive to MAKE something work, then holy crap. There is nothing better.
How do you know if you can make it by being your own boss? If you let go of all excuses, if you can work other jobs for a few years to support yourself while working on your passion. If you can have a plan to succeed, and stay strong through the silence or negativity of non-supporters. I think what I’m doing as a coach is the greatest opportunity out there, for the people willing to work for it.
So, that’s me. Working on a business, building a strong marriage, re-exploring my faith, falling more in love with yoga, and finally feeling at home 1100 miles away from where I grew up. You can expect posts about nutrition, fitness & health, yoga, marriage, balance, love, forgiveness, and MY journey in life.
If you’re in, then welcome. I’m glad to have you as a reader & look forward to getting to know you as well. Don’t worry, I won’t ask if you’re Amish 🙂
