I feel like I’ve been blogging about very serious topics lately.
Let’s change it up today and talk about FUN!!
I’ve always liked Ben & Jerry’s ice cream…well first of all because it’s delicious, but also because they have this phrase on their containers:
Seriously, think about that for a second. Anyone who knows me understands that I’m not some pollyanna, happy-go-lucky person, but this has really been striking a chord with me lately. I’m trying to incorporate as much FUN into my life as possible, while still working towards my goals.
Exercise: I need to do it everyday. That’s a non-negotiable. But I don’t have to suffer through a workout that I hate. I can make it as much fun as possible. Turbofire was the workout that made me fall in love with Beachbody programs, and I’ve been adding it back into my routine lately. There’s something about dancing around to a beat that makes cardio seem that much more fun…
Nutrition: I need to stay on track with my nutritional goals. I can’t just eat Ben & Jerry’s everyday because it’s fun. But I can eat things I enjoy. I can take time to prepare things and make them look pretty, because nice-looking food always tastes better. I can spice up my Shakeology recipes with something different to keep it fun and interesting. There are definitely ways to make eating fun while still staying healthy!
Business: Ok, first of all, let me say that it is really FUN to have as much freedom as I do with my business. But, not all aspects of what I do are enjoyable. It’s hard to engage people, and I get rejected often. Sometimes I just don’t want to turn on my computer and do work. That’s when it’s helpful to incorporate something fun. Like putting on some awesome music while I’m working. Or letting myself watch a funny cat video for every 30 minutes of work I do.
Lucy agrees that I should watch more cat videos!
I can do this with a lot of things in my life, but I know that no matter what, there are some things that I have to do that I’ll never really enjoy.
Like laundry – I can’t stand it. I’ve tried to make it easier and better – folding stuff right away, using good-smelling detergent – but I still don’t like it. I don’t know why, I just never have. There’s nothing fun about laundry for me.
But if I think back to that phrase, “If it’s not fun, why do it?” – there’s a pretty clear answer. Because if I didn’t do it, I wouldn’t have any clean clothes. I’d be dirty and smelly. Being dirty and smelly is NOT fun.
When something’s not fun, I have to ask myself why I’m doing it. There’s usually a really good reason, and when I remember that…it doesn’t become FUN exactly, but it becomes a little more bearable.
So, as cheesy as it may sound, I’m using a quote from an ice cream container to improve my life right now! And of course, I still have some fun and eat the stuff too!
Mmmm, Ben & Jerry’s Peanut Butter Fudge…
